De Kock sustained an injury to his groin during his Player-of-the-Match performance against Pakistan in the 5th ODI, his innings of 83 from just 58 balls helping South Africa to a 3-2 series win.
Dr Mohammed Moosajee, South Africa’s team manager said: “Quinton sustained an injury to his left groin while fielding during the last ODI on Wednesday. He will be unable to take part in the T20I series against Pakistan and we are hopeful he will be fit for selection for the Test series against Sri Lanka starting in Durban on February 13th.”
A disciplined combined bowling effort, a blitz from Quinton de Kock, and a cool pair of half-centuries from Faf du Plessis and Rassie van der Dussen were enough to seal the series for South Africa in the fifth ODI against Pakistan.#SAvPAK REPORT 👇https://t.co/mSse1qNw10 pic.twitter.com/qkkmyGcjR6— ICC (@ICC) January 30, 2019
Janneman Malan, who is uncapped, has been called up as de Kock’s replacement, and will be available for the final two matches. He enjoyed a productive time in the recent Mzansi Super League, averaging 33.88 from his nine innings for Cape Town Blitz.
Speaking on the Cape Cobras batsman’s selection, Linda Zondi, the convenor of selectors, said: “Janneman was one of the standout players during the Mzansi Super League and has been putting in the runs consistently at franchise level. He is an exciting young prospect, this is a great opportunity for us to continue blooding players at international level.”
The first T20I is currently underway in Newlands, Cape Town.
